I have been trying to let different key people around the different schools I visit to please let me know how I can help them as well as get some extra training time. This week I got a call from one of the Technical Support Specialists (TSS) that serves the high school. She said she just recieved 4 new LCD monitors and Apple TV units that needed to be installed and programmed for the teachers. Luckily, I was able to take a couple of hours each day in order to help her over a 4 day spread. We did run into a few issues with the install of physical items due to the high school being an older builiding. The monitors would have to be mounted on cinder block walls so determining proper placement near outlets and such was imperative. We had to find creative ways to make it happen but all in all it turned out pretty well. Who knew a little ingenuity and some zip ties could go so far. As far as programming the Apple TVs, it was very interesting how we had to make sure that the students couldn't hijack the signal and present things at this time. The TSS said that they had actually not thought of this at first and had students hijack the monitors during instruction in the past. We did run into some issues with at least 2 teachers who had forgotten their Apple IDs, but luckily that was not that difficult of an issue to resolve. These large screens will be replacing the projectors teachers have been using in the past. They will use them from their desktops as a second screen for presentations as well as now having the mobility of using an iPad as well.
